Birthday Moocher and Leech?

It is soon to be my birthday again UGGG. I was thinking about last year how a "friend" wanted to come stay at my house AGAIN to take me out for a few drinks and dinner for my BD. As we were having our meal, she starts this sob story of how she was having trouble makeing her car payment, rent, utilities, and on and on. To say the least, I couldn't enjoy my BD. She went to the restroom and I told the waitress to give me my part of the bill. I paid for my part. When the check came for the friend(her part only), she made the statement she was short. I informed her I had paid my bill. I guess she would have to pull out the credit card. Needless to say she wasn't happy with me. Should I have paid her part ?
