Can someone list the different functional groups, briefly describe them and give some examples?

im having a hard time memorizing the different functional groups. well, i kno there are six of them: hydroxl, carbonyl, carboxyl, phosphate, sufydrl, and amino. but i dont kno wat they are. can someone explain it to me please? thanks
