Is it normal for a person to do this?

My room mate goes Hmmmm every so often when he reads and I am trying to sleep, it's ******* annoying. He is also one of those people that will make noises and talk to the tv. Is that normal? I find it very annoying to hear him go Hmm or Mhmm and WHAAAT to the tv. Oh and he listens to annoying *** techno... this sucks sharing a room with the guy.
