When is the right time to get admitted, to hospital?

i am a first time preggie. My due date is on april10th and the doctor wants me to get admitted to hospital on the 2nd itself.....i was told the baby is big, already 3.5 kgs. She said it is difficult to deliver such a big baby lly first time around, any body else hav similar experience...is it okay to get admitted well before you are due?
